can my 1999 jeep cherokee sports which is a manual can be converted to automatic transmission? if so , can anyone recommend a shop as i live in los angeles, california and how much is the cost for the convertion?
Anything can be converted. You're just gonna lose gas mileage going to an automatic. Any good transmission place can do this conversion. I'm from Texas so I can't help on locating one.
Yes it can be coverted; however, many modifications might be needed depending on which automatic trans you want to use. Typically; an adapter plate may be needed at the bellhousing to facilitate bolt up. You might have to change the flywheel due to removal of the cxlutch and pressure plates. Your rear drive shaft will need to be changed; as will your front propellar shaft if you have 4 wheel drive. You may need to change the transfer case as well. Then you will need shift linkage, etc... In other words it will probably be cheaper to buy a new jeep that already has an auto trans.
