NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The death earlier this year of a former plastic surgeon convicted in the 2007 death of his model girlfriend has been ruled accidental.
An administrative assistant to the medical examiner in Cook County, Illinois, where Christ Koulis died in late March, said Wednesday his death was due to bronchial pneumonia and opiate intoxication.
Koulis was convicted of criminally negligent homicide in September 2007 in the death of Lesa Buchanan, who was killed on July 4, 2005 in her apartment in Cool Springs.
Koulis was sentenced to two years in jail and ordered to pay a fine.
He, however, never served a day behind bars because his case was going through an appeals process at the time of his death.
Just days after he died, Koulis' attorney, David Raybin, filed a motion known as "abatement by death" with the criminal court of appeals, asking that his client's conviction be dismissed.
If the court of appeals rules in favor of Raybin, then it would be as if Koulis had never been convicted of criminally negligent homicide in Buchanan's death.
I think this is a shame for two young people to die from drug intoxication. I do not beleive the courts shoould move to abate this conviction becuase to me it shows he was involved in drugs and died in the same manor his girlfriend did from to much opiates int he system. He truly is responsible for her death and should be found guilty of murder. Justice has been served he is dead!
