Discuss Michael's answer to: Autisum

my grandson has a mild case of autisum the ques, i have is he throws things he hits me I don't know how to treat this I got mad I hug I talk nothing seems to help What Can I Do ty

I have an autistic granddaughter,,, lucky for my wife and I; we baby-set at our home while my daughter and her husband worked. I believe in your case, maybe you do not get to see him everyday. If he does not see you everyday his mind will forget you. Getting angry will not help. He does not know he is doing bad.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Take him to a nice store, and if you do not know his sizes ask for help. Once you know what size pants and shirts he wears; take him to the area that has pants and let HIM pick the color he wants, then take him to the shirts and let HIM pick out the shirt he wants. Be slow, take your time do not rush him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I use to do this with my granddaughter and she would pick out some pants and lay them on the carpeted floor, and then she would pick out a shirt and lay it where it should be as if she where dressing her self or laying clothes on a bed to see how they would look. She did not speak; but she would look at me and smile and shake her head yes. To me that smile and shake of her head was worth my whole pay check.

Good Luck! Everything may fail; but LOVE never fails!

So I got me a pen and a paper, and I made up my own little sign. I said, "Thank you Lord, for thinkin' about me, I'm alive and doin' fine."
