Attaching a wood rail like a 2x4 on a brick wall as a handrail.

i have a step on the back of my store just two steps but they are very small on the footstep so very akward when going up and down.  I would like to attach a wood handrail (nothing fancy) maybe getting two 2x4 s and off set thinm making a hand hold.  The question The wall is brick and what would be the best way to attach the rail to the wall.

use 1x6 or 8 and two 2x4's glued & screwed together longways. mount the

2x4's (cut same length as the 1x) to the 1x thru back side of 1x. then mount

the 1x (with the attached pcs.) to the masonry wall.
