The humanities include ancient and modern languages, literature, law, history, philosophy, religion, and visual and performing arts such as music and theatre. The humanities that are also regarded as social sciences include technology, anthropology, area studies, communication studies, cultural studies, and linguistics. Scholars working in the humanities are sometimes described as "humanists".[1] However, that term also describes the philosophical position of humanism, which some "antihumanist" scholars in the humanities reject.

Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging symbolic elements in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture, and paintings. The meaning of art is explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics, and even disciplines such as history and psychoanalysis analyze its relationship with humans and generations.

The humanities are academic disciplines which study the human condition, using methods that are primarily analytical, critical, or speculative, as distinguished from the mainly empirical approaches of the natural and social sciences.

Art is the object,All art is created and founded by people

All that makes us human fit into the broad category, humanities.  Jada's insight is very worthwhile, but is hardly comprehensive.

May I take issue, lovely lady?

Might we include the Terpsichore and Muse in the list of humanizing dignities?

These include dance, drama, comedy, poetry, and literature.  Let us also include my passion, Music.

Alas, all that makes us partly divine also makes us partly diabolical.  I seem to remember (in the ghastlier moments) that my grandson shared a song with me about ninety-nine bottles of beer, and a wall upon which they were placed.  I cannot recall the lyrics but I recall the nausea that the lyrics caused.

Without these freedoms of mind we would be mere machines.  At least, until we discuss ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall.

Does this justify my hope for a re-enactment of the Volstead Act?

All right. Who in the orchestra had the gall to bring that harminica?
