Well it seems like Yedda had a little bit of a glitch so ignore the other 14 answers?! Ha Ha

Your best bet for central Rome hotels would be areas like Campo de Fiori and in particular Piazza di Campo de Fiori (the main square), Trevi fountain, Navona, Pantheon and then most definitely the Trastevere area. You can look in these areas for central Rome hotels as well.

The nightlife is really what you want it to be, in the sense that there are many chilled pubs, plenty of restaurants, a nice atmosphere and after 12 a good selection of (but not so hectic) pubs and cocktail bars.
Bear in mind that the Italians are in any case a laid back nation. You will very rarely see alcohol abuse or aggression (unless you plan on going to see some soccer games).

Rome is very trendy any place you go, the Italians dress up to go grocery shopping! You will only escape that by visiting some of the numerous more laid back Irish pubs, but that may limit your cultural experience.

For budget hotels in central rome visit budget hotels in Rome Italy or for 3 star Rome hotels see central hotel in Rome , alternatively for hotels near Trevi fountain see trevi fountain rome hotel .

i depends on how long your vacation would be. If it'll last for a week or two, house renting is much cheaper and reasonable. While if is is only for a day or three, hotel is good.
