My AOL Desktop program has suddenly started crashing when I check email and/or try to surf the web. The program simply closes and I'm starting at my desktop wallpaper.
I tried clearing the cache and repairing/reinstalling the AOL Adapter. Nothing has helped. Any clues on what to do to fix this issue?
I've got the answer. I had to spend $11.99 to get it (by paying AOL for tech support), but here's the result: AOL Desktop is negatively affected by Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 8. I had to uninstall version 8, and uninstall AOL Desktop. Then I found, downloaded and re-installed IE version 7. Downloaded and re-installed AOl Desktop and the problem was resolved.
Every time my aol acts up I call aol's tech service and they are pretty quick to figure out what the problem is. I'd try calling.
Unfortunately, AOL tech support does not come with free AOL. Now, you have to pay $12/month to be able to call them. And I may just do that...but I was hoping some computer techie would be able to help me out for free.
With AOL you can jump through all kinds of hoops to try and repair it and the bottom line always comes back to the same fix....Uninstall and Reinstall. When doing this, it is important to completely uninstall the whole darn thing and then reinstall. If you don't do that, there are many files that simply move over to the newly installed version, whether they are damaged or not. Hope this helps.
