definition of Mr. and Mrs. chairs. We have two antique chairs. One is called a Mrs. chair and the other a Mr. chair. We don't know which is which. One has a cushion for the back and the other doesn't.
I hate to be sexist....but....the comfy chair, with the padded seat and back, would be given to the man of the house!
Generally the Mrs. chair is smaller and lower then the Mr. chair. Anyway that's the way mine are.
The Mrs. chair is usually the smaller of the two. Rarely has arms and is built for a smaller person. It will have delicate carvings compared to its mate. The Mr. chair has a broader seat and back. Always has arms for comfort. I have two sets. Both of mine have a deeper seat for the Mr. Chair. They were designed around body structure.
