You could probably open it and carefully clean, but to tell you the truth, especially if it's antique, I wouldn't. You have to really understand the mechanics of the clock, and though amazingly simple, it can be difficult to clean.

I'm trying to find out how to clean my antique clock... it's black marble.  So far there are a few answers and the safest one seems to be hot soapy water and then a polish with Kiwi black shoe polish.  There are people suggesting you can make a poultice from acetone and talc but there are also a lot of posts from professional stone restorers which say thats rubbish so I'm not really game to try it because acetone is a strong chemical.  Although they probably spend their time debunking good information when they're not busy so that they end up with the business.  I hope this has been helpful.  What is your clock made of?

There's nothing new under the sun.
