France was the first established nation to accept our polity in 1789. However, Morocco was a French colony at the time.  The next nation to admit that we are a nation was, paradoxically, Britain.  That a few months before they tried to invade us again for the War of 1812.  Next to admit our national polity was Canada in 1813, also at the time contested between France and England.

Politics can be a bit strange, to say the least.

Life is like a sewer: you get out of it about what you put in. (Tom Lehrer.)

I think you need to go back to history books. Morocco was invaded by France and Spain in 1912 and not before. And it was declared a French and Spanish protectorate and not a colony. Morocco is a 1200 years old nation and it recognized the USA in 1777 and in Tangeir is the oldest American owned property outside of the United States

Here is my sources:

Bill Clinton adressing the king of Morocco " Your Majesty, America will never forget that in 1777, the first nation in the world to recognize the United States was the Kingdom of Morocco."

Obama: "Morocco was the first nation to recognize my country"

From his speech in Cairo

''the Legation has been involved in Moroccan-American diplomacy for centuries.
Morocco was the first country to recognize the United States, in December 1777 with the hope of promoting commerce with the new republic. This act by the Moroccan sultan was the first public recognition of the U.S. by a head of state.  However, it was not until1786 that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson –both serving respectively as American ambassadors in London and Paris-- appointed Thomas Barclay to negotiate a formal treaty of friendship and commerce with Morocco. Barclay reached Marrakech in June 1786 and the treaty was concluded two weeks later.  It was forwarded to Jefferson and Adams for their signatures and sent to Congress for approval. It represents the first treaty signed by the United States with an Arab, African, and Muslim power.''
