HI Polly, I don't know how many Native Americans there are, but you can find out by checking the US Census records.  I do live among some Native Americans and they are among the nicest and kindest people I've ever encountered.  They do not seem to have any anger toward the US.  They honour everyone in their PowWow ceremonies.  They are Odawa.  I have long time personal friends who are Cherokee, full bloodied and they have parents who still live on reservations  in North Carolina.  They too are full of life and love for all.  No animosity that ever shows itself.  I honestly cannot say that for my African American acquaintances.  They, for the most part, seem to be seething deep down underneath.  That difference is I imagine because of the difference between being forced off the land and herded up like cattle OR being bought and sold and owned by others.  Neither way is good, but to be possessed by another and disrespected by all would cause anyone to seethe a bit, it seems to me.

Dear Polly;

True. They do deserve more than they have received. But there is never an adiquate recompensation for the evil of genecide, which is what happened to many tribes (Only good indian...).

My Native American friends have for the most part been the most proactive in dealing with positive dealings, and I appreciate them. I also have had African American friends who were positive, although like me, look first, then decide if you need a big stick. But, history and interaction with people around us helps to determine how one interacts in life.

Trust and respect are still the big things we need to pratice.

Shalom;

Yechiel
