chloral hydrate I think it's called. very not safe to mess with. USE ONLY UNDER A DOCTOR'S CARE

There is a drug called Antabuse which was made in the '60s for this very purpose, to treat alcoholics. It is still available, but is not used much any more because of its dangers (drop in blood pressure dangerously low, symptoms of anaphalactic shock, etc.) It was made for the alcoholic to take so that he would be too scared to drink while he was taking it. It's not used much because families would give the drunk the drug without his knowing it. Then, when they unknowingly drank while taking it, they would get sick. The problem was that the alcoholic would ignore the symptoms, continue to drink, and kill himself. Since so many people were dying, it's not used much anymore.

(Chloral hydrate is a sleeping medicine, so if you use it, the drunk will just go to sleep. Or die if he takes too much.)
