An uncircumcised woman in some Middle-eastern and African cultures is thought to be unclean or even not a virgin. Female genitalia is also thought to be ugly in some cultures. Most forms of FGM remove the clitoris, which is thought of as the source of sexual pleasure for women. FGM is also considered healthy because it is believed to enhance fertility and child survival.
