The truth is addiction is a learned behavior for survival so people can become addicted to anything. When someone is bored, lonely, angry, stressed, tired, overwhelmed, fearful or frustrated, they turn to a substance or behavior for relief. The addict has trained their brain that this is what they need for survival against this feeling or emotion. You can retrain your brain to not need the drug (i.e. gambling, sex, drugs, alcohol, etc.) but it takes some time and practice.
