Call 911.  Have him taken to the nearest de-tox center.

Since shooting him is out of the question, I agree with Marcus. You have to forgive me, I had an abusive, alcoholic father. I have no sympathy for drunks.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.

Call the police and have him arrested.  No one needs to accept the abusive behavior of another person toward them, even if it is their child.  When he is sober, tell him you are through with him until he gets well.  He is in need of help.  As his parent, see that he gets it.
