   1/2.        (1/3+2/6 )   = ( 2/6+1/6 )  = (3/6 )  = 1/2

You have to bring them both to a common denominator (in this case the smallest common denominator is 6):
1/3  +  1/6  =   2/6   + 1/6 = (2 + 1 )/6 = 3/6 = 1/2
