1939 navy muster rolls-is the "PLACE OF ENLISTMENT"  the place that they lived at the time or were born at or something else? i am trying to get some information on my father ...was there a naval base in willemstad, curacao, nwi in 1939.  i think i googled curacao online but didn't find that much info...any help would be appreciated.... i personally thank each & every military serviceman/woman for fighting for our freedom in the USASmile

Place of enlistment means one's hometown at the time the service member joined the service.  In this case, the Navy.  BTW, I have never seen a coward in the US Navy.  Anyone who has the nerve to go to sea and fight has my respect.

One can name any place as his place of enlistment.  On discharge, wherever the person is, the service will pay his way back to the place of enlistment.  many servicemen realize that and at the recruiter's behest will name any place they hope to end up at the end of their tour.

That is why so many Naval personnel managed to retire in Hawaii: they said they once lived on Oahu and got tickets there when their enlistments ended.

It is a great way to sweeten the deal for enlisting in the service.  Use it!
