12 hour shift and Second-shift differential??

I work a 12 hour shift as a registered nurse in Flint Mich. My shift is 0830 till 2100. Though I work 6 hours on first shift and 6 hours on second shift, and an half hour lunch, I receive no second shift differential? Is this legal and what is the determining factor in this case as to why I should not receive the differential?
